The art of transformation: Holiday home Seebächli

A rural idyll with a compact and well-designed interior – welcome to a holiday home in Toggenburg.

The Seebächli holiday home is embedded in the idyllic landscape of the upper Toggenburg. Architects Hauser.Meier Architektinnen of Zurich converted the attic space to a multi-functional living and sleeping area for the family and friends who come to stay. The slanting area beneath the roof was converted into storage space. Elegant wood panelling discreetly conceals four beds, bedside tables, a chest of drawers and a desk that are pulled out when needed or stowed away when not in use. Two compact glass cubes allow light to flood the room; one is designed as a shower, the other as a wardrobe. Floral silhouettes printed on the glass panels are local to the region and bathe the room in a warm light. The regional connection is also reflected by the choice of untreated spruce for the walls, floors and ceiling and is reminiscent of the old wooden farmhouses of the region.

A jamb wall was built to create storage space for the attic's interior fittings, among them a chest of drawers and cabinets. The furniture on rollers is pulled out when needed and subsequently stowed away behind an elegant, flush cabinet front that features HAWA Multifold 30 W hardware for sliding folding doors.
