Villa on the Lake Zug

The idyllic landscape surrounding the villa on the banks of Lake Zug had a defining influence on the architecture. Architects Graber and Steiger responded sensitively to the surrounding countryside and created a house that responds flexibly to the needs and wants of its inhabitants.

Architects Niklaus Graber and Christoph Steiger have built a villa for a family of four on a plot with an old stock of trees in the Swiss town of Zug. The multi-component structure is subtly situated on the lakeside plot and reflects its surroundings with a great deal of sensitivity. Trees and bushes are reflected in the generously dimensioned windows depending on light conditions, making the building appear as if it were a natural part of its environment. This effect is enhanced by a brick facade with color hues that change as the light changes. The building's reduced language of shape creates a fascinating interplay with the small structural elements of the facade.

The sliding doors enable flexible room use – they create spaces ideal for withdrawal and privacy or for being together with others. HAWA Junior 80 B and HAWA Junior 120 B hardware were installed in conjunction with the concreting-in system HAWA Adapto 80-120. This enables the installation of top tracks flush with the ceiling – with no drilling and no danger of damaging supply lines.
